Dear Dr. Mimi – Overworked Student

Dear Dr. Mimi,
I am a working college student, and my company is supposed to be accommodating to students’ schedules. However, my boss keeps asking me to come into work at times she knows that I have classes or study groups. I have tried to make this issue known to her, but she keeps dismissing me. I am afraid that I will fall behind in my classes or have to quit my job. What should I do?

If your company’s accommodation to student schedules is an official policy, you might want to bring this issue up with your Human Resources department. If you don’t want to make an official complaint, I would encourage you to have a one-on-one chat with your boss and make it absolutely clear that, based on company policies, you need your college schedule to be taken seriously.
